How pet fusion works

Any two animals can fuse, and the game builds the hybrid from their parts.

ProjectSpin a Pet Fusion →

The whole idea of Spin a Pet Fusion is that you can fuse any two animals and get something new. Shark plus Cat makes a Shat. The hard part is that with 24 animals there are hundreds of possible pairs, and I wasn't going to make a model for every one.

Pets are made of parts

Every pet is built from slots: a body, a head, a tail, legs and an extra. Each animal is just data that says which shapes go in which slot, where they attach and what colours they use.

Fusing two pets picks parts from each parent and puts them together. The choice is deterministic, so the same pair always gives the same result. That also means the fusion screen can show a silhouette preview before you commit.

Special fusions

About 40 pairs are hand-made combos with their own names: Shat, Froggo, Pigbun, Sky Shark and more. Some get extras like a crown, a halo, sunglasses or horns. Every other pair still makes a hybrid; it just gets a generated name instead.

A bug that froze Studio

Generating names for every pair used a loop that retried when two names clashed. With 8 animals that was fine. Once I added all 24, one pair (Pig plus Lion) could never get a unique name, so the loop never ended and Studio froze every time the config loaded. Now the loop always stops, and I test changes to the config with a safety cap first.

What's next

Rolling, bases, fusion, the Index, upgrades and rebirth all work in playtests. Next is polish: the hub, sounds, a tutorial and controller and touch support.
